The Mountain

The Mountain used to culminate at 364 ft, before 1958 when its top was excavated for the purposes of building the Mass Pike. It is located on the right when traveling on Route 9 going west, right next to Mass Pike exit 12 (Chef Orient). It seems this hill has always been called "The Mountain", at least on the maps I have looked at (1832 being the oldest). Kinda weird it has never been named for something or someone. Still a cool name though for what is basically ... a hill.

The Barometric Spring seen on the 1951 map picture was kind of a local attraction, it seems. All I know is that its flow depended on the barometric pressure. When the Mass Pike was built, that neat little point of interest was destroyed. All is left of the spring is water coming down the rock that was cut to make way for Mass Pike exit 12.
